This Is Us: Tracing Manchester’s Histories is a Manchester Histories project, delivered in partnership with Manchester City Council.

The project explores how Manchester’s public spaces reflect the city’s rich and diverse histories, and asks whose stories are visible, whose voices have been overlooked, and what histories are still waiting to be told.

Through collaboration with communities, individuals and organisations across Manchester, This Is Us: Tracing Manchester’s Histories aims to uncover and celebrate overlooked stories, reflect on complex legacies, and bring a wider range of experiences and perspectives into the way the city’s history is represented. By sharing personal stories, community memories, images, audio and archival material, the project will help build a richer and more inclusive picture of Manchester’s past and present.

At the heart of the project is the belief that Manchester’s history belongs to everyone. By creating opportunities for more people to contribute, we hope to ensure that the city’s public spaces better reflect the people, communities and experiences that have shaped Manchester.
